Stolen Generation s descendant Brian Long says trauma has been passed across the generations.Some claimants in the NT Stolen Generation s class action have been told they will receive as little as $3,000 from a $50.45 million settlement.

In 2022, Shine Lawyers successfully argued that by causing trauma, distress and other harms to children forcibly removed under assimilation policies between 1912 and 1973, the federal government breached its duty of care to them, and to their siblings and carers. Almost two years after they won a $50 million settlement from the federal government, descendants of NT Stolen Generations say the wait for compensation is adding to their trauma.

In a statement, Shine Lawyers said it was "aware that some registered representatives are unhappy with the outcome of the eligibility assessments".
