What an awful thing to do

Angry neighbours woke up to find a string of cars on their estate in Sherwood had been targeted by criminals in the early hours. Police are appealing for witness and information after 8 vehicles were either keyed or had their tyres slashed in Berwick Close, part of the Edwards Lane estate.

John Newton, a 45-year-old caretaker, said: “I had heard about what had happened from a neighbour but there aren’t that many precautions that you can take apart from being vigilant. It’s a shame that that happened to that many people.” Gemma Simmons, 35 and a sales assistant, had seen a post about the incident on Berwick Close online. Gemma, who lives near the estate, told Nottinghamshire Live: “I have the steering wheel locked on at all times but there’s not really much you can do to protect the outside of your car. If someone wants to key your car and slash your tyres then most of the time, they can.

Speaking anonymously, one woman on Berwick Close told Nottinghamshire Live: “It was really weird, nothing like that has ever happened before and it was only our street. Tyres aren’t cheap.
