Trains have again ground to a halt as strike action continues in the UK today.

Thousands of railway workers are staging walkouts after talks failed to resolve a bitter row over pay, jobs and conditions.Those travelling to Glastonbury Festival are among those affected –Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union at Network Rail and 13 train operators are taking industrial action, crippling services across the UK.

Transport secretary Grant Shapps has been accused of ‘wrecking’ negotiations, leading to a second day of strike action. RMT general secretary Mick Lynch said: ‘Grant Shapps has wrecked these negotiations by not allowing Network Rail to withdraw their letter threatening redundancy for 2,900 of our members.

‘Until the Government unshackle Network Rail and the train operating companies, it is not going to be possible for a negotiated settlement to be agreed. ‘We will continue with our industrial campaign until we get a negotiated settlement that delivers job security and a pay rise for our members that deals with the escalating cost-of-living crisis.’RMT general secretary Mick Lynch claims Grant Shapps ‘wrecked’ negotiations Trains will mostly be restricted to main lines today, with around half of the network closed.
