Bay Area drivers may experience major traffic delays and detours on the U.S. 101 freeway in Redwood City next weekend as city officials replace a bridge.
LATEST Oct. 7, 1:30 p.m. Drivers will once again experience major traffic delays next weekend as the northbound lanes of the U.S. 101 freeway in Redwood City will be closed for 55 hours as part of a bridge replacement project. The closures come as part of the 101 Cordilleras Creek Bridge Replacement Project, which closed the freeway's southbound lanes for 55 hours in late September. The closures will affect northbound U.S. 101 between Brittan and Whipple Avenues in Redwood City from 10:00 p.
Those headed to the San Francisco International Airport, which sits on the 101 freeway in South San Francisco, should prepare for extra travel time, the airport said in a social media post. Drivers traveling south will need to enter the airport using the 280 freeway. The southbound freeway will be closed this weekend from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, Caltrans said. Later next month, from Oct. 13 to 16, the northbound freeway lanes are slated to close for the remainder of the project.
