At least 7 colleges have announced booster shot requirements in the state.

New Jersey Institute of Technology became the latest college Thursday to announce a booster requirement for all students, faculty and staff. All who are eligible for the additional immunization will need to show proof of a booster shot by Jan. 31, school officials said., including Princeton University, Rutgers University, Drew University, Stevens Institute of Technology, St. Peter’s University and Felician University.

Mandating boosters for students and staff will help keep college campuses open and mitigate the spread of the virus, college officials say. The latest COVID activity map placed all 21 of New Jersey’s counties in, meaning there is “very high” virus spread statewide as the nation reckons with the largest spike in cases, as well as the omicron variant’s impact.

, also joined over a dozen colleges in shifting the start of its spring semester online. Classes will be held remotely from Jan. 18 — when the term starts — to Jan. 30. In-person classes are set to start Jan. 31 and conclude in mid-May.
