Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania's box office suffers from the MCU's worst second weekend drop following its franchise-best opening numbers.
Amid a slew of mixed reviews and competition, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's box office has the Marvel Cinematic Universe's worst second weekend drop. The third installment in the Paul Rudd-led franchise, and the first in Phase 5 of the MCU, finds Scott Lang, his daughter Cassie, Hope, Hank and Janet all sucked into the Quantum Realm by Kang the Conqueror in his hopes of escaping back into reality.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY As the weekend comes to a close, Variety has brought word that Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has suffered the MCU's worst second weekend drop at the box office. Though remaining in first place with an estimated $32.2 million at the box office, the Paul Rudd-led threequel saw a 69 percent drop from its debut, which was the highest-grossing for any Ant-Man opening weekend.
On the flip side, however, the Ant-Man films were often viewed as the underdogs of the MCU's roster, with the first two garnering generally positive reviews from critics while also only bringing in modest hauls of $519 and $622 million, respectively.
Unlike last year's MCU-filled calendar, Marvel head Kevin Feige has confirmed that the studio is looking to better pace its releases, both theatrical and Disney+, heading into Phase 5. While two streaming shows, Secret Invasion and Loki season 2, are confirmed for 2023 releases, they look to be better spread out than last year's, giving the other film releases a chance to bounce back from Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's rocky start for Phase 5 at the box office.
