Anthony Albanese has confirmed he will travel to Beijing to hold talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, marking the first prime ministerial visit to China in almost a decade.
The Prime Minister was widely tipped to make the trip after a breakthrough meeting with President Xi on the sidelines of a G20 summit in Bali last year.

Picture: Yan Yan/Xinhua via Getty Images The last Australian prime minister to make an official trip to China was Malcolm Turnbull in 2016 for the G20 summit. "China is a major power with global interest and it is valuable to exchange views on challenges to stability, peace and prosperity in our region," Mr Albanese said.
Those restrictions have begun to be slowly unwound over the past year, but are yet to be lifted in their entirety despite the efforts of Trade Minister Don Farrell.
