Australia’s gas price crisis will stoke inflation and crimp economic growth if it drags on, according to a snap poll of economists; Resources Minister Madeleine King has flagged an overhaul to the so-called gas “trigger”. Follow updates here.

“One thing that I do want to make very clear is that we are going to have a definite policy position – strong policy positions – and the reason I bought such a high calibre team together is so that we can work through that policy and have a very clear alternative to the government. On whether the Coalition’s handling of energy policies when in government attributed to the current gas crisis, Dutton said the Labor government does not know what direction it wants to head in.
