The prime minister is said to have told colleagues Labor's draft legislation was a "balanced position, which protects religious liberty and the right of schools to employ, while also protecting the rights of children". The issue also gained a mention in the Coalition partyroom meeting on Tuesday morning in which, according to a senior figure in the room, a WA politician praised an opinion piece penned by Shadow Attorney-General Michaelia Cash, in which she argued she feared Labor was set to wind back protections for religious bodies.
