A small band of anti-monarchists have sought to disrupt King Charles and Queen Camila's visit to a church in North Sydney, hurling curses at the royal couple and unfurling banners accusing the monarchy of 'genocide'.

Officers were also seen checking the underside of cars and sweeping the wider area for any potential security risks. In footage posted to social media, one protestor explained the demonstration was an attempt to help educate Australians about the history of"sovereignty" in the country. Spoke to some of the aboriginal protesters afterwards who said they were there to remind the world that sovereignty was never ceded in this country. That the British came with force to pilage & rape & murder.One, wearing a t-shirt featuring a picture of the late Queen Elizabeth II with a sash that read"dumb dawg" and the words"abolish the monarchy," told reporters at the scene the group had gathered to protest British rule and demand the return of Indigenous lands.
The protests drew criticism from some online, as well as royal supporters who attended the event on Sunday.
