Children on the National Disability Insurance Scheme are more likely to be unvaccinated against COVID-19 than their peers, as providers and health authorities grapple with parental hesitancy.
Of the 55,000 children aged 12-15 on the NDIS, 22 per cent have not had a single dose, compared with 15 per cent of children in this age group in the general population. NDIS Minister Linda Reynolds said the government had continued to adapt its response to the pandemic for NDIS participants. McAlpine said some families struggled to access sedation or appropriate facilities to ensure their loved one with intellectual disability could receive a vaccine dose.
