A thrilled dad said that he bought an old trunk in 1984 and gave it to his daughter – but she was stunned to learn its value, after appearing on Antiques Roadshow with Fiona Bruce
A shabby old storage box, picked up for a mere £12 turned out to be a rare Louis Vuitton treasure with a staggering valuation on Antiques Roadshow.
He found the gem at a bric-a-brac shop in St Margarets, near Twickenham, London, thinking it would be perfect for his daughter Melissa's storage needs. At 56, Melissa decided to auction off the luxury piece to safeguard it from her rescue cats, and was astounded when it raked in nearly £10,000. "I was trying to video the laptop screen for my husband who was working but it was difficult to concentrate on keeping the phone steady.
She explained: "We foster cats and I have to keep the trunk covered up all the time to stop them using it as scratching post."
