Australian miners will headline a slew of corporate updates next week, as US earnings season hits top gear and investors mull ANZ’s mooted bid for Suncorp Bank.
ANZ Group’s potential $4.9 billion bid for Suncorp’s banking arm is set to headline a bellwether week of trading updates as corporate Australia reveals the impact of soaring inflation, labour shortages and supply chain pressures on its bottom line.will be the biggest banking deal in more than a decade and follows a 28 per cent slump in the shares over the past five years.
Australia’s largest miners will also start providing June quarter production updates as analysts zoom in on how much the commodity price boom will be offset by higher raw material, energy, and labour costs. Gold miners Northern Star, Newcrest Mining and Evolution are also scheduled to report on Wednesday and Thursday as analysts focus on production and cost guidance.
In the US, the earnings season hits top gear next week. Netflix will report profit and subscriber numbers on Tuesday as investors trawl for clues as to how much pandemic-related demand has unwound across the tech sector.Johnson on Tuesday, and American Express on Friday.In Australia on Tuesday the Reserve Bank will release the minutes from June’s monetary policy meeting and deputy governor Michele Bullock is due to speak at the Brisbane lunch of the Australian Business Economists.
