Could a popular Apple Watch model be about to be deleted this year?
, this year could see the demise of Apple Watch Series 3. This watch has been in the Apple Watch range since its launch in late 2017. When the new-design Series 4 launched a year later, many expected the Series 3 to vanish from shelves. But no, Apple reduced the price to a frankly remarkable $199 and kept it in the range for not just one more year, but for four more years, assuming it ticks its last tock in Fall 2022.
Although it lacked some of the advanced health tracking features of later Apple Watches, and the display was smaller, and the design less opulent, it’s been a real stayer. Of course, the price is a key part of this. It costs $199 for the 38mm version, as mentioned above, or $229 for the larger, 42mm Watch.
But all good things must come to an end, it seems, and according to Gurman, 2022 is the last hurrah for Apple Watch Series 3. As he puts it, “Apple Watch Series 3 may finally be retired.” It looks like, according to Gurman, that the Series 8 will be announced alongside a new Watch aimed at those keen on extreme sports and a new Apple Watch SE. Perhaps this new SE is what will replace the Series 3 in the range or—here’s a thought—maybe when the new Watch SE is announced, the original SE will become more affordable, replacing Series 3 as the entry-level Watch. After all, it’s currently $279 for the smaller version or $309 for the larger size.
