“A big part of what we wanted to do is return to the hedonism of being by water,” says Burges. “Even in the depths of winter, you can be in your cossie and find a spot in the sun since the sunken courtyard is sheltered from the wind. At the height of summer, it’s cooled by cross breezes, and we’ve planted native gardens to create microclimates.”
