Brits could see the "snowiest period in 12 years" as another Arctic blast is expected to sweep across the nation over the Christmas period.
Temperatures are expected to stay above zero in the lead up to Christmas, but soon after sub-zero temperatures will return, threatening ice and snow across the country throughout January. Forecasts warn a "major winter blast" is coming and winds will be as cold as -11C.The extreme weather comes from pressure patterns in Iceland which are expected to sweep over to Britain.
"We could now be looking at a lengthy cold period setting in for a number of weeks and the potential for some of the coldest and snowiest weather since December 2010." The Met Office's forecast states: "Frequent wintry showers affecting northern areas on Monday, these becoming confined to the Northern Isles, where very windy too.
