New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern said she was an 'exceptionally poor substitute' after filling in for Prince William at UN summit, where he mentioned his late grandmother in a virtual address.

The Prince of Wales personally asked Ms Ardern to deputise at the Earthshot Prize innovation summit while the royal family continues a private mourning period following Queen Elizabeth’s death.

Ms Ardern was introduced as a “global leader on climate change” who had “devoted her life to building a better world”. "We think often of our challenges but imagine for a moment what can be achieved by channelling our potential." Prince William spoke of the environment being close to Queen Elizabeth's heart.
