. I’m not going to pick my way across the landscape of her figure to explain in what way. I am reluctant to use a term like “lost weight”, not only because it’s meaningless but because it can be dangerous.
I spent too many years, as a self-loathing young woman, scouring the world for crack tips about how to alter my own body, to run the risk of passing this information on to someone else. I can still remember sitting on my grandmother’s bedroom floor, before a small electric fire, reading with avid interest about the sliced vegetables and mirror-facing meditations, the pints of water drunk and foods cut out by various celebrities.
