As the weather cools down in October, there's plenty of work you can do inside and outside the home. Here are several helpful suggestions.
. Do this as soon as possible to ensure that the roots are established before winter arrives. Aerate established lawns to reduce thatch and compaction.• Keep gutters and window wells clear of leaves.• Shut off the water-supply lines to outdoor faucets and drain the tap if freezing weather threatens. Drain garden hoses and store them.on a frame above ground and away from the house.• Make sure window and door locks work easily. Lubricate locks with a dry lubricant.
• Remove and store window screens. Install storm windows. October typically offers dry, cool weather that is ideal for cleaning windows. • Change the direction of rotation on ceiling fans. In cool weather, the fan should turn slowly, blowing down• Move paint and other liquids that might be damaged by freezing temperatures from the garage to the basement.
