Australian swimming champion Ariarne Titmus says winning her second consecutive Olympic 400m freestyle gold medal on Sunday morning was a “rare” moment to savour in her already decorated career. The 23-year-old is now a three-time Olympic gold medallist after securing back-to-back titles in her signature event, having edged out the greatest female swimmer of all time, American Katie Ledecky, and Canadian prodigy, Summer McIntosh, on both occasions in Tokyo and Paris.
” Titmus, with her victory on Saturday night in Paris, is elevated to the rarest of air in Australian Olympic history. She joins the legendary Dawn Fraser as the only Australian women to successfully defend Olympic titles. Fraser won the 100m freestyle at three consecutive Games from 1956. “I can’t really believe that’s me,” Titmus said of keeping Fraser company.
