A meeting of regents who oversee Arizona and Arizona State was being held Thursday night that could determine whether the Sun Devils and Wildcats are ready to leave the Pac12.
Arizona’s Board of Regents discussed the future of athletics at the state’s biggest universities during a closed session Thursday night.
The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because neither the school nor the conference were prepared to finalize an invitation to the Wildcats. The Arizona Board of Regents, which oversees Arizona and Arizona State, were holding a closed executive session to look at possible legal advice and discussion regarding university athletics. Washington regents called a special meeting to discuss present pending or potential litigation with counsel.
“But at the end of the day, I just think we’ll look back at college football in 20 years and be like, ‘What are we doing? What are we doing?’” he added. “Let’s let our guys stay regional. Let’s play. Let’s preserve the Pac-12 and what it is.”
