The Sun Devils have momentum, but road games against UCLA and USC could help determine the team's postseason fate.
After a home loss to Colorado 10 days ago, it seemed as if the only chance the Arizona State Sun Devils had to advance to the postseason was to win the Pac-12 Tournament, which will be held at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas beginning March 8.
Coach Bobby Hurley's team has two games left to make its case. What better way to do it than games against top-caliber foes and that will be the case as the Sun Devils trek to UCLA for a showdown on Thursday, followed by one at USC on Sunday. “We’ve been through a lot as a team but we had some really good wins early in the season and hit a tough patch in the middle and we came full circle back to being a big underdog," Hurley said, after the game."Some people jumping ship on us and not thinking that we're that team but we are that team. And the guys came out with it tonight and we're excited for the rest of the way.
Another factor is the good old fashioned eye test. Many say the Pac-12 suffers from East Coast bias, with games on too late to draw a lot of eyes, not to mention the relative low distribution of the Pac-12 Network that even makes it difficult for those in the market to see games. But this game took place in a Saturday noon time slot on CBS so the win is going to resonate with those that do make decisions. At one point three weeks ago, ASU seemed like a lock to make the field.
