From midnight tonight, residents in the local government areas of Parramatta, Georges River and Campbelltown will not be allowed to leave their area for work unless they meet specific criteria.

"Please make sure you know whether you're subject to extra strict rules, the extra harsh rules we have put in place to try and reduce the number of people infectious in the community."

"They are strong, resilient communities and I want to acknowledge the role that community leaders and others in those communities have in getting those messages out and supporting communities," Dr Chant said. Cumberland City Council Mayor Steve Christou said the continuation of harsh lockdown rules was "armageddon" for many in his community.

Kitchen and bathroom tradesman John Gittany from Strathfield has narrowly missed out on being covered by the all-out ban.
