The Armidale local government will enter a week-long lockdown from 5pm on Saturday after two people tested positive for COVID-19.
The Armidale local government included the Armadale town centre which is home to close to 25,000 people and other small towns in the surrounding area.
The positive cases are thought to be linked to a young person who visited the area and transmitted it to an acquaintance. Health Minister Brad Hazzard urged people to remain at home and go for a COVID-19 test if they presented with symptoms. "If I were living in the area I would not be going out of the house today. I would be staying at home," he said.
