Matthew Livelsberger, a 37-year-old US Army soldier from Colorado Springs, was identified as the suspect who drove a Tesla Cybertruck to Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas and detonated it, killing himself.

Law enforcement has provided major updates in the separate attacks that rocked the United States on New Year's Day, with both suspects having served in the army, but investigators say there is 'no definitive link' between the two incidents which left 14 people dead and dozens injured. The suspect who parked a Tesla Cybertruck outside a Donald Trump-owned hotel and committed suicide before it exploded has been named by investigators.

Las Vegas Police on Thursday morning (local time) named the person as 37-year-old Matthew Livelsberger who was a current serving member of the US Army. The Colorado Springs man had driven from Colorado to Nevada three days after Christmas using a rented Cybertruck, making multiple stops to charge the vehicle. Investigators then tracked him visiting 'different places' along Las Vegas Boulevard, the main strip, and then spent some time in the car park of a nearby business. The Cybertruck returned to Trump's hotel about 8:40am, stopping outside the doors of the building before the vehicle explodes in a fireball 17-seconds later.
