Jay Ruelas, a retired Army veteran, said his work to create custom autos is a passion project.

Ruelas is seen driving the cart on Interstate 35 in Live Oak at roughly the same speed as every other car. While the Lowe's logo can be seen on the side of the cart, he said it is not a promotional vehicle made by the company, but the result of a passion project of his.

“I had that Lowe's sign because I had gone to a Lowe's customer appreciation event that Thursday morning,” Ruelas said. “Nothing promotional or anything like that — I decided that because I was going to Lowe's, would just make it a little bit nicer.” The attention he’s received from the cart was unexpected, Ruelas said. As someone who doesn't use social media, he said he found out about the videos through his nephew and friends.A San Antonio family will compete on Family Feud. Remember when the Barreras won $41K in 2021?

Ruelas, a former Army mechanic, built the 20-foot-long, 10-foot-tall vehicle with the intention of using it at the Christmas toy drives in which he’s been participating for the last 13 years, but he’s also taken it to different local events. When the video was shot, Ruelas was driving to the San Antonio CarFest, where he later replaced the Lowe's sign with sign for O'Reilly Auto Parts, a company he said helped him with his project.
