The suspect, who does not attend Aberdeen schools, was taken into custody Monday morning.
“Posting threatening statements is not acceptable and it’s against the law,” Thake said. “The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority. We take threats seriously and I am grateful to the Aberdeen Police Department for launching an investigation right away and working with us to identify the suspect.”
According to police, the investigation began Sunday with posts on the Aberdeen High School TikTok account saying, “I’m bringing a gun to school on Monday,” and “Don’t go to school on Monday.” Thake said the district is also concerned about the mental health of its students and staff and wants any students who might be experiencing anxiety due to the messages to contact their school counselor or a trusted adult.
