Residents who live near Melbourne’s safe injecting room in Richmond have come together with drug users to put on an art exhibition in a show of support. | carawaters
said local support for the My Community exhibition, which has opened in a disused shopfront in an Abbotsford shopping centre, showed the bond between residents and people who used the facility. The exhibition includes abstract artwork, poetry and several photographic series.
“Lucy”, who did not want to be identified, said being a part of the exhibition helped show she was more than just a drug user.“We’re humans as well and not just an addict or a user or a junkie,” she said. “We have voices. People can see that we have feelings and emotions.”
