The artist behind the Ladies Lounge at Hobart’s Museum of Old and New Art has spoken out following a shock court ruling that will force Mona to open the exhibit to men.

Artist Kirsha Kaechele 'deeply saddened' after Hobart’s Museum of Old and New Art lost legal battle over its Ladies Lounge

The case first came about when a male visitor from NSW, Jason Lau, complained the women-only policy at the Ladies Lounge was discriminatory after he was refused entry. The Tasmanian Civil and Administrative Tribunal on Tuesday ruled the Ladies Lounge to be unlawful and legally ordered MONA to permit men.

"But, by grace of due process, I have been granted a 28-day period. This allows me space to absorb the situation, seek counsel and compose myself," she wrote to Instagram on Wednesday.
