Ariton’s baseball program will finish the rest of the season with a new head coach.

Ariton principal Josh Herring confirmed to the Dothan Eagle Tuesday that head coach Logan Dunlap resigned from the position on Monday, though he still remains as a physical education teacher at nearby Ariton Elementary School

Herring said Bob Pickett, who joined the staff this season, has been named interim head coach. Pickett has previous head coaching experience at Pike Liberal Arts and Macon-East. Pickett’s first game was on Monday night when the Purple Cats lost to Pike Liberal Arts 13-12. After his tenure at Northside Methodist, he joined Drew Miller’s staff at G.W. Long, a position he held for two years before becoming an assistant coach at Enterprise under former G.W. Long teammate Rick Pruitt for two seasons with emphasis as a pitching coach.
