I am mystified as to why hotel quarantine does not offer more to keep anxiety and depression at bay.
If someone had told me six months ago I would be teaching virtual exercise classes while under guardI would have laughed at the absurdity of the idea. I am, after all, a law-abiding soul who has spent an inordinate amount of time as a high school teacher trying to encourage adolescent kids to stay on the right side of the law.
One of the best pieces of advice I could give someone entering quarantine in Australia is to have a reason to get up each morning. Teaching fitness classes on Zoom gave me a sense of purpose. It also provided me with the added bonus of exercise and communication with the outside world. This is essential because one of the big issues with quarantine, essentially a form of solitary confinement in my case, is the toll it takes on mental health.
