As a Hispanic American, I decided to live outside the race box and rejected getting into Harvard Law school by affirmative action. That’s real freedom.

Fox News contributor Joe Concha shares his thoughts on former CNN host Brian Stelter being offered a position at Harvard UniversityFor me, the Supreme Court argument in the Harvard affirmative-action case was personal. Growing up poor in Los Angeles, as the son of Colombian immigrants, I faced my share of racist taunts and stereotyping. In high school, I recall my White French teacher asking where I wanted to go to college. I said the Naval Academy.

The Supreme Court cases deal with the admissions policies of Harvard and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. All this time I had a Chinese American girlfriend who, despite being exceedingly bright and coming from the same city I did, was flatly barred from these opportunities because she was the wrong skin color. I knew she could run circles around my classmates in terms of academic performance, presentation skills and professionalism, but alas, she was Asian American, and that fact alone disqualified her.
