As a 'Red Wall' Tory MP, I'm glad HS2 has been cancelled

Network North will do more for levelling up than HS2 ever could

and spend £36bn on hundreds of infrastructure projects in the North and Midlands is the right one and I believe it will make a real difference to the regions outside London.With estimates suggesting that the project will now be over £100bn, three times the initial 2009 figure, it’s reassuring to see the Prime Minister has taken the financially responsible decision that will reward the North and Midlands far more.

People want to see investment in infrastructure but recognise that global economic challenges mean we have to be responsible with taxpayer’s money, and they also understand that unless there are reliable local bus, road and rail networks, extortionate projects like HS2 will fail to have a real impact.

In addition, the Stoke to Leek Line, which has been closed since the 50s, has also been confirmed to re-open. This is hugely advantageous for the region and will better connect people to the wider North Staffordshire area. Our plans will drive regional growth, making the area competitive and resilient.
