As Alan Jones' radio contract talks drag on, a new wrinkle emerges | JennieDuke
Macquarie Media has the option to review rival offers made to Alan Jones as difficult negotiations with the star 2GB presenter drag on.
According to people familiar with the talks, Jones’s contract does not have a non-compete clause but gives Macquarie the "last right of refusal". This means the radio network is able to make a last-minute counteroffer against competitors who want to make a rival bid for Jones. The "last right" complicates an already fractious negotiation process marked by leaks and cross-media rivalries.
Sources close to Macquarie dispute this claim calling it "complete fiction". Macquarie is controlled by Nine Entertainment Co which owns this masthead.
