CLEVELAND -- Selling your soul to Donald Trump comes with a no-return policy. So Mike Gibbons, Josh Mandel and Jane Timken won’t be able to buy theirs back.

Of the five candidates with a theoretical chance of winning this food fight, Vance is in a dead heat with Mandel for the most loathsome, with Timken and Gibbons close behind. The fifth GOP candidate among the leading contenders, state Sen. Matt Dolan, is easily the best, but cannot win. Nevertheless, a few hours after Trump blessed Vance’s candidacy, Dolan offered a perfect description of his opponents. “Rather than focusing on Ohio, Jane Timken, Josh Mandel, Mike Gibbons & JD Vance embraced lies & undermined the Constitution to go all-in for one endorsement,” Dolan said inon Twitter. “They cheapened the integrity of the office they wish to attain ….

A central tenet of our democracy is that, absent ample evidence of verifiable fraud, we accept the results of our elections. When trust in the sanctity of those elections evaporates, dissolution of the government will almost certainly follow.
