Luke Mangan claims gas is the most effective way of cooking; Neil Perry turned off gas in his kitchens almost 20 years ago. The City of Sydney will be making the call on whether to ban it entirely.
The City of Sydney has passed a motion to look at not connecting gas in new buildings.
The council passed a motion on Monday night to explore the feasibility of not connecting gas in new buildings, as part of a growing tide of jurisdictions across Australia making the switch to electric-only connections.Oscar Colman “In Asian cooking ... it’s the shape of the pan, with a deep bowl [that matters],” he said. “With gas, the flame goes around the whole pan, whereas the electric doesn’t get in there as much.”
Waverley Council implemented new planning rules that would rule out gas in favour of electric stoves, heaters and cooktops in new residential buildings last year, while Parramatta Council rolled out the changes in all new buildings in its city centre in 2011. That council will consider broadening the new rules across non-residential buildings within its area.
“We believe that our residents should be allowed to choose their preferred energy solution,” Carbone said. But the NSW government remains firm it will not implement a statewide ban.
