As Southern Baptists brace for historic sex abuse report, here's what you need to know

Distrust in leadership was so high that, in addition to the investigation, SBC church delegates also demanded executive committee members relinquish attorney-client privilege for two decades of communications with their lawyers, telling their top leadership to turn over any legally protected documents requested by the firm investigating them.Not much. The findings have been kept under lock and key by GuidePost Solutions, the independent firm hired by the SBC.

But the SBC task force that’s working with GuidePost says the firm has received at least five terabytes of documents and communications, and conducted at least 300 interviews since October. The report’s scope is limited to the actions of executive committee members since 2000.For one, it will shed light on years of allegations that SBC leaders actively opposed abuse reforms despite repeated and routine warnings from survivors, experts and advocates.
