Asbestos found on school ground despite negative test | ameliamcguiree
The community of Castle Hill High School is reeling after being advised a substance found on school premises in 2016 was asbestos after the NSW Department of Education determined it wasn’t.
Liberal member for Castle Hill Ray Williams has accused the department of “severely compromising” the health of 2000 people by refusing to answer questions about asbestos content at the school since the incorrect report in 2016. Castle Hill MP Ray Williams says he became advised of the asbestos result last Thursday at a meeting with the community.“The teachers and parents of CHHS have made numerous complaints regarding Asbestos to the Department of Education over several years which still remain unanswered,” he said in a statement.
Williams said he became aware of the incorrect asbestos test report last Thursday when he was presented with the positive 2016 asbestos test result. “The department has been sitting on this for the past seven years. That’s an entire cohort that’s gone through year 7 to 12 without knowing asbestos was on the premises,” he said. The Morning Edition newsletter is our guide to the day’s most important and interesting stories, analysis and insights.
