'Eggs surprised me. I just paid £1.45 for 6 at the corner shop'
Supermarket shoppers have been left bewildered after finding a 21-year-old ASDA receipt from 2001. Everyone knows that, at the moment, prices continue to rise across the board.
The receipt was shared on popular website Reddit. Posting on the platform user u/MooMooMills1 posted an ASDA receipt from 2001.The receipt shows a number of items included vinegar for just 17p, eggs for just 99p and two lots of white baps for just 49p each. The post received more than 6,000 upvotes and commenters couldn't believe just how much certain items had risen in price. But some other Redditors also found other trends in the receipt, says Birmingham Live.
One user replied: "A lot of stuff has shrunk, though. So while some things may be the same price, sweets and wrapped goods will often be smaller now than they were then. Shrinkflation probably doesn't apply to eggs though".
