The supermarket has pulled its own-brand Asda Extra Special Taleggio
A popular cheese product sold in Asda is being urgently recalled after it was found to contain an organism that can cause illness and diarrhoea.
The Food Standards Agency said the supermarket giant pulling Extra Special Taleggio from the shelves because listeria monocytogenes had been found in some of the products. The specific products affected are a pack size of 200g, with a use by date of April 14, 2024. The FSA said: "Symptoms caused by this organism can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea. However, in rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications, such as meningitis.""Some people are more vulnerable to listeria infections, including those over 65 years of age, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies less than one month old and people with weakened immune systems.
It added: "Asda is recalling the above product. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.In a recall notice, an Asda spokesperson said; "Please bring it back to your nearest store where you will be given a full refund. You do not need a receipt.
"We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused. If you would like any further information, please contact Asda Customer Relations on 0800 952 0101."
