Retired tennis legend Ash Barty has quietly been let go by telecommunications giant Optus after two years in an ambassador role. Barty signed with the company in August 2022, in a newly created role as chief of inspiration. The move came just months after her shock retirement from tennis in March of that year. But two years on, Barty’s deal with the company has been ended.

“It’s very humbling that my story has inspired so many people, but the reality is there are millions of everyday Australians who have the courage and commitment to say ‘yes’ just like I did. I welcome the opportunity to encourage more people to say yes to the things they love.” Optus also made a big splash at the time with Ricciardo and Barty featuring in a video on a golf course to promote the tennis icon’s new role.
