Some of Australia’s biggest names including ashbarty and Eddie Betts have headed down the Big Freeze slide at the MCG as the FightMND fundraiser surpassed $1 million. 7AFL 7NEWS
The Big Freeze is underway at the MCG after the very first slider Tim Watson addressed this year’s group in the rooms.“Many years ago when Neale had this idea that he was going to get people to jump out of a Helicopter across the top of the MCG into a nice little pool of ice, I said, ‘No, look it’s not going to work Neale. What we will do is we will put them on a slide and we will have them slide ever so gently into this huge ice bucket.’ ‘OK, full of magnificent ice.
“There’s going to be a lot of people that are watching this right across the country. A lot of people like Neale that have been afflicted with MND. This is going to raise their spirits today. It’s not going to cure them. But it’s going to raise their spirits for a short period of time. “You will also be given a beanie, a baggy blue today which will signify the number that you have gone down the slide. They will be given to you, so that is something to remember the day by, and also something for you to look at and understand that you are part of a bigger scene out there.
“It doesn’t end today. Part of our responsibility when we go forward, is to make sure we always remember today and we keep building on what has already taken place, because of the drive of this great man.”If you’d like to view this content, please adjust your
