BREAKING: Australia has won the opening Test at the Gabba by nine wickets.
Fighting knocks from Joe Root and Dawid Malan got England back into the contest on day three, but a sizzling performance from 400-wicket man Nathan Lyon sparked a collapse which gifted Australia an easy march to victory.
Lyon couldn’t crack through for his 400th wicket on day three, but celebrated an incredible milestone when he had Malan caught by Marnus Labuschagne at bat pad. Josh Hazlewood also allayed fears he was seriously injured, bouncing back after a mysterious absence from the attack on day three to claim the wicket of Jos Buttler as part of England losing eight wickets before lunch.
