Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has accused Home Affairs Minister Clare O'Neil of being 'asleep at the wheel' on immigration and protecting Australians' data.

Rear Admiral Justin Jones, who leads Australia's Operation Sovereign Borders program, told Senate estimates the transfer had occurred, but neither he nor other officials provided details about the process. Michael Thomas, first assistant secretary of people smuggling policy in the Department of Home Affairs, said that providing further detail"may have an impact on relations with Nauru, as well as privacy and safety," although he did confirm that the 11 asylum seekers were now in an"initial reception" stage of processing.
"I think Clare O'Neil has been pretty embarrassed by what we've seen on her watch in terms of failures in the cybersecurity space and now obviously people who are being put onto Nauru as well." Despite clearing Nauru of asylum seekers in July this year, the Albanese government has always insisted the policy of turn-backs and offshore processing remained in place.
