WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Justin Dirden did not hide his nerves during the first week of full-squad workouts. He had never been in major league spring training and acknowledged some “shaky legs” after seeing how Astros veterans approached their routines.

“Who knows? We’ll see who’s injured, who’s not, who’s playing well and what we need. Everyone is getting about the same shot to impress us,” Baker said. After hitting a home run in two of his first three Grapefruit League at-bats, Dirden shifted to turning heads with his defense. He ended the seventh inning of Tuesday’s game against the Mets with a marvelous diving catch in left field.

“I’m proud so far of what I’ve been able to show,” Dirden said. “Showed a little bit on offense, a little bit on defense here and there. Now I think the name of the game is just consistency, trying to come in and do the same thing every day.”
