Verlander played catch in right field at Comerica Park on Wednesday. He threw a bullpen session Tuesday, after which he tested his injured calf with pitcher’s fielding practice. Verlander reported no issues, but deferred to the team any questions about when he may return. “We have an idea, but I don’t want to put that pressure on him or us until we know for sure,” manager Dusty Baker said prior to Wednesday’s game against the Tigers. “I think, right now, if he’s OK, he’s probably slated to go Friday.”The Houston Chronicle’s Chandler Rome discusses some of the biggest questions facing the Astros as they begin a road series in Detroit.
Baker did not immediately announce the rest of the team’s rotation for the four-game series against Oakland that begins Thursday.
