Australia’s second most shorted stock, IDP Eduction, has warned of a large reduction in its business due to increasingly restrictive policy in Australia and around the world for international students. The company – which places international students in Australia, New Zealand, United States, United Kingdom, Ireland and Canada – said it expected student placements to decrease by as much as 20 per cent in FY24.
“Governments in IDP’s key destination markets of Australia, the UK and Canada hadrecently announced or implemented a series of changes that were expected to have a negative impact on the size of the international student market,” the company said. “Given the current policy settings and market trends, IDP expects that the size of theinternational education market will decline by 20 to 25 per cent over the next 12 months.
