Australian shares are poised to fall. US stocks drifted ahead of a national day of mourning for the funeral of President Jimmy Carter. US markets will be closed on Friday AEDT. The S&P 500 briefly slipped below 5900 points. On Wall St at 3pm: Dow +0.1% S&P +0.03% Nasdaq -0.1%Options traders are betting the S&P 500 will move roughly 1.2 per cent in either direction after the US employment data, based on the price of that day’s at-the-money straddles, according to Citigroup.
70 per cent near 3pm in New York; it has risen 54 basis points in the last month. The equivalent UK yield rose to as high as 4.82 per cent overnight, its highest since August 2008. The latest Federal Reserve meeting minutes confirmed rising concern among policymakers that progress on inflation has stalled.
