The S&P/ASX 100 rose 0.1pc, poultry company Inghams rallied 11.7 per cent, A2 Milk tumbled 8.6 per cent, and steelmaker BlueScope’s shares fell 10 per cent.
The S&P/ASX 200 index closed up 0.1 per cent to 7351.5.NIB’s underlying operating profit rose 13.3 per cent to $125.1 million in the six months ended December 31, from $110.4 million in the year-earlier period.
Baby formula manufacturer a2 Milk fell 8.6 per cent to $6.49 after it missed analyst expectations on its earnings. The buyback program will be for a maximum of $NZ78 million – the balance of the initial $NZ150 million buyback target.of $1.32 billion, up 124 per cent from the previous year. The earnings exceeded its previous record year reported in 2015.
Group earnings before interest and tax is expected to be between $70 million and $80 million for the full year. That compares with previous guidance of $75 million to $85 million.Adairs reported first-half EBIT of $35.5 million, up 7.9 per cent on the year earlier period, and net profit of $21.8 million, an increase of 23.9 per cent.
