At this year’s New York City Ballet Fall Fashion Gala held at the David H. Koch Theater,composed a vibrant and masterful original score for a never-before-seen ballet. The world premiere was choreographed by Gianna Reisen with costumes by designer Alejandro Gómez Palomo of Palomo Spain.
Following the ballet’s performance, a celebration was in order. But first, she made a stop at Al Coro restaurant, where Solange commemorated her team, Saint Heron, on their efforts. Later, at Discolo, a newly opened club in Chelsea, the multi-hyphenate welcomed a group of close family, friends, and collaborators in the intimate setting. Also, there was mother Tina Lawson, who cheered the duo all night.
As Beyoncé’s latest album “Renaissance,” filled every inch of the space. The two danced together as sisters do, with great joy and an overflow of laughs. Spotted in the buzzing space was designer Raul Lopez, a longtime friend of Solange, along with Telfar Clemens, and director Melina Matsoukas. Solange, dressed in Balenciaga Couture, Lorraine Schwartz jewelry, and Loewe balloon pumps, floated through the space, thrilled to embrace familiar faces and share a dance.
“This evening has been in the works for a long time now. The process of composing for the ballet was an inspiring journey for me,” Solange tells. “Exploring this form of expression and now getting to share it with my friends and loved ones tonight has been incredibly rewarding. It’s certainly a celebratory evening.”
This dazzling opening night at the ballet marked a new chapter and hopefully the first of many compositions by Solange in the future. As an artist and lover of experimentation, the star is filled with surprises, and each one is equally impressive as the last. In Solange’s famous words, “do nothing without intention.”
